Self-Assessment Results

The results of the self-assessment were calculated and categorized. The Expert, Formal Authority, and Personal Model were grouped together as instructionist teaching styles, while the Facilitator and Delegator styles were grouped as constructionist.  Table 7 shows how many from each Group perceived themselves to be constructionists and how many perceived themselves to be constructionists, and compares these numbers to the results of the Grasha-Reichmann Inventory.  Group A is the only group that had an equal or greater number of constructionist teaching styles, according to the Grasha-Reichmann Inventory.  Members from both Group B and Group C had perceptions of themselves as constructionists, but scored as instructionists.

Table 7

Out of a total of 30, within all groups, seventeen faculty self-identified as Facilitator (see Table 8). However, only nine of them scored the highest in this category on the Grasha-Reichmann Teaching Style Inventory. An additional four faculty also scored high in this category, but had an equally high score in another category. The number of faculty who scored as a Facilitator on the Grasha-Reichmann Teaching Style Inventory was not dependent on group membership.
